Why Matt Damon Is My New Hero

Funny, News Chat - by John - October 7, 2009 - 07:20 America/Montreal - 21 Comments

Ok, so I JUST started getting into “Entourage” a few months ago and it’s a pretty good show. But this week it had me rolling on the floor laughing.

Matt Damon was the guest star on the season finale the other day as himself (as most celebrities are on the show). Anyway, in the episode he was doing charity work for a kids foundation and he was being a hard ass trying to get Vince (the lead character of the show) to give a big donation for the kids (getting Lebron James and Bono to help apply extra pressure). Finally at the end of the episode Vince agrees to send a check for $150k. And the credits roll.

But AFTER the credits, this comes up… and I laughed my ass off even more. Damon rules:

Megan Fox as Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - June 10, 2009 - 05:27 America/Montreal - 52 Comments

I woke up this morning to find the internet all a buzz on the newest unsubstantiated wild speculation rumour that Megan Fox is in lead contention to take on the role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the heavily fan opposed Buffy remake.

MovieWeb shares:

Cinefools has reported a rumor circulating the industry that Megan Fox is being considered for the title role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revamp that’s been in talks for just little over a month.

Megan Fox will always get cast in films because she is insanely hot. To me this just feels like stunt speculation casting rumours garbage just trying to draw attention to the already doomed Buffy Remake thing the Kuzui’s are trying to get off the ground. And I know this post just feeds to that wild speculation buzz, but I doubt this will add any credit to their efforts to actually get this made.

Two things to consider here. There is no studio attached. Buffy was huge. Even I am a fan. But it ran its course. And in its near decade long fandom dominance it still has a driving fanbase that is passionate, but still not big enough to support a feature film. What that niche audience wants is MORE Buffy, not a remake. Like Joss said, “The only people asking me about more Buffy are fans, when a studio asks me THAT is what matters”

Secondly, the Kuzui’s have never done anything OTHER than Buffy. They bought the script from a Young Joss Whedon, and made the cheesy film which Fran Rubel Kuzui directed herself. They were smart enough to bring Joss on for the TV series, and they produced it as well. When the series ended, it wasn’t like the Kuzui’s were suddenly a hot commodity producing and directing in Hollywood.

Of course they would be trying to get this brought back as it is the only property they own the rights to. If they do nothing with those rights for too long, they lose them.

With Megan Fox offering up such gems of wisdom like how she would defeat Megatron saying “make a deal with him, and instead of the entire planet, can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?” She isn’t scoring any points that her smoldering good looks don’t save her from.

There is a growing theory online that the Kuzui’s are pursuing this project to bluff the fans into a fever pitch to show the studios that they need more original cast Buffy (possibly in a feature film or TV movie).

It’s basically just a simple little mash up video, but it’s done VERY well. Check this out:

First Look at Brolin as Jonah Hex

Today we get our first peek at Josh Brolin sporting the Jonah Hex digs.

He looks right in the role to me. Pretty gruff, but less exaggerated facial scars. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Reynolds Talks Good News about Deadpool Spinoff

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - June 1, 2009 - 06:07 America/Montreal - 34 Comments

Despite all the moaning and complaining about the train wreck that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there was a lot I did like in the film. Of course those were just shining side moments I wish I saw more of.

One of those shining moments was Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, the mercenary who would become Deadpool. When talk of a spinoff featuring the character were rumoured, I was all in. But then as fast as those rumours hit, they faded. Now we get news that its still happening. And its good news.

HitFix quotes Reynolds:

“Well, I’m intimately involved with it. We’re just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it’s going to be just like the comic books. I’m gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that’s the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible.”

This assurance right from the would-be Merc’s mouth is exactly what the fanbase wanted to hear.

I thought that Reynold’s portrayal of Wade Wilson was dead on. As I mentioned in my Wolverine review, Wade Wilson was awesome and Deadpool sucked.

The only hope they have is to reveal that the “Deadpool” in the Wolverine film wasn’t Wilson, and that Wolverine just presumed that it was.

I figure that somehow Wilson is inspired to use the name. Maybe he hears it and figures its a good codename to use since everyone thought that was him anyways. Fans are quick to disassociate the Deadpool name from Weapon XI and fast to point out that Weapon XI was not played by Reynolds, but rather Scott Adkins.

The biggest concern I am hearing is that Deadpool in the comics constantly breaks the fourth wall and addresses some of his jokes to the reader. I think if they handle it right they could have his own running dialogue and self narration be part of his mental break as he uses humour to overcome his disfigurement. It can be done, but they have to be careful with that part of the character.

Also recently, Katee Sackhoff was rumoured to be researching Typhoid Mary for a role and some speculated it would be for this Deadpool spinoff, however a script hasn’t even been finalized, but it is still a possibility.

Idea For Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4

Funny, News Chat - by John - May 22, 2009 - 10:07 America/Montreal - 22 Comments

We know Raimi likes to pick certain issues or story lines from the Spider-Man comics to be the basis or inspiration for his movies. I’m thinking that Spider-Man 4 could be very interesting and different if he basis it on this particular issue of Spider-Man. Take a look.

Edward Norton and Robert De Niro Join “Stone”

Funny, News Chat - by John - May 7, 2009 - 10:54 America/Montreal - 7 Comments

The last time we saw Edward Norton and Robert De Niro together was in the film “The Score” mildly decent film that didn’t live anywhere near up to its potential, especially when you consider the cast involved (Marlon Brando was also in it and it was directed by the brilliant Frank Oz).

Well… it seems the two major stars are taking another shot at working together in an upcoming project called “Stone”. The guys at We Are Movie Geeks give us this:

Mimran Schur Pictures, formed of a partnership between David Mimran and former Geffen Records president Jordan Schur, will produce develop ‘Stone’ as their debut film. Holly Wiersma will also co-produce. The story follows the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) who seduces a correctional officer (De Niro) while the arsonist is up for parole.

You know what… that actually sounds like it could be pretty good. Man I hope it is…. De Niro has been so ass awful for years now. It would be awesome to see him return to form.

Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus Pictures

Funny, News Chat - by John - May 7, 2009 - 01:15 America/Montreal - 11 Comments

Because of how brilliant he was in The Dark Knight, a lot of people forget that it wasn’t Heath Ledger’s last movie. Ledger was working on the Terry Gilliam movie “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” when he died. As you may recall, instead of scraping the movie, they finished it with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell all stepping in to play Ledger’s character to finish the project.

The film has just recently picked up distribution (finally) after it looked like it may fail to do so. The film will premier at the Cannes FIlm Festival on May 22nd.

The good folks over at Filmofilia share some pictures from the production that they got their hands on. In the pictures we can see Christopher Plumber as Doctor Parnassus, Heath Ledger as Tony, and Lily Cole as Doctor Parnassus’ daughter Valentina.

Trekkies Attack New Star Trek As Too Entertaining

When you need real hard jouralism, everyone knows you turn to The Onion. I’ve loved this paper for years and the videos they make are far better than anything you’ll ever see on Saturday Night Live (in my opinion anyway). Their latest video report is on the backlash Trekkies are having against the new Star Trek movie because it makes too much sense and is too watchable. My favorite line: “If I wanted to watch young attractive people doing exciting things, I’d stay home and watch sports”.

Arkham Asylum Clip: Harley Quinn

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - April 21, 2009 - 08:55 America/Montreal - 33 Comments

The new clips coming out for the Batman Arkham Asylum look just amazing. I have no clue if it will be a good game, but I could watch those cut scene clips all day.

The Nerdy Bird tipped me off to this gem featuring Harley Quinn:

This made me think that Harley would be a good fit for a Nolan Batman villain. Not as the primary villain but a crazed devotee to the now imprisoned Joker for an opening act of the movie. She can get apprehended and lead into the main story. Ties into the last one without having to repeat a Joker that will be unfairly criticized but still reminding us he is there.

And it should be Kristen Bell, and she should wear that outfit.

Damn I am good.

Woody Allen Vs American Apparel

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - April 15, 2009 - 23:36 America/Montreal - 11 Comments

Woody Allen is no stranger to scandal, but in this latest conflict I have to say I side with Allen.

American Apparel Inc used Woody Allen’s image in a billboard ad without his permission, and after Allen reacted a short week later the ad was taken down. Now Woody Allen is seeking $10million in damages for the unlawful use of his image.

Yahoo News says:

One billboard featured a frame from “Annie Hall,” a film that won Allen a best-director Oscar. The image showed Allen dressed as a Hasidic Jew with a long beard and black hat and Yiddish text. The words “American Apparel” also were on the billboard.

Allen’s lawsuit said the billboard falsely implied he sponsored, endorsed or was associated with American Apparel.

Slotnick said it was not a cheap shot to bring up Allen’s sex life in a lawsuit over the billboard and Internet ads.

The funny thing here is that American Apparel Inc is not denying the unlawful use of Allen’s image. They seem to be fully aware of that and are not even trying to dodge this accusation. I suspect their may have been some deliberate fabricated scandal here. One week of an ineffective billboard and now the news is all talking about their company.

Their whole tactic seems to be digging up as much dirt and controversy as possible about Woody Allen to reduce the “value” of the damages. Why would they want this despicable man to represent their product? If they can manage to prove that Allen’s image isn’t WORTH using to promote their product, then perhaps a judge will lower the lawsuit to a number they are more comfortable parting with.

“Woody Allen expects $10 million for use of his image on billboards that were up and down in less than one week,” Slotnick said. “I think Woody Allen overestimates the value of his image.”

I think it is more accurate that Woody Allen is absolutely certain about the value of image rights and the law.

But the simple fact remains… American Apparel Inc seemed to think it had value when they put the sign up or they wouldn’t have made the effort to do it in the first place.

Chris Pine leads Green Lantern Casting Rumours

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - March 19, 2009 - 15:43 America/Montreal - 11 Comments

Right on the heels of mentioning the release date of Green Lantern, and commenting that there hasn’t been a casting rumour yet for Hal Jordan, we get news that the shortlist is being lead by Chris Pine.

IESB.net

IESB has gotten word out of the Warner Brother’s halls that there is a short list of possibles for the casting of the green superhero Hal Jordan. Top of the list is Chris Pine who is currently set to star as Captain Kirk this summer in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek film.

This would be a great move for Pine’s career after getting the job in the iconic role of James T Kirk.

Pine fits the bill for what the WB was looking for. They wanted a late 20s early 30s and Pine does have that fearless maverick presenece.

I could see this. I would still prefer they shot for mid 30s, but I could live with the late 20s. As long as they don’t make a teen thing.

So far so good.

Star Trek Next Generation Cast to appear on Family Guy

Funny, News Chat - by Rodney - February 26, 2009 - 11:28 America/Montreal - 19 Comments

With the New Star Trek poised to overwrite history all that went before/after will be sealed in its own discontinued parallel universe, but the cast of Star Trek The Next Generation had a reunion of sorts and it may be the last time all of them are in the same room together. The entire cast will be offering its services to voice a cameo appearance of their popular characters on an episode of Family Guy.

IESB.net shares:

In the episode titled “Not All Dogs Go to Heaven,” the “Next Gen” crew (Patrick Stewart, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes) will provide guest voices as the Griffin family heads to the annual Quahog “Trek” convention.

“Stewie blows a fuse when he doesn’t get a chance to ask his favorite ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ cast members any questions,” reads the logline. “He devises a plan, builds a transporter and beams the entire cast to his bedroom so they can spend a fun-filled day together in Quahog.

One thing I love about the Simp… Family Guy is that they get voice actors to actually voice their cameo parts. The scenes are funny enough when a celebrity makes a cameo and they dont HAVE to use the orignal voice actor for the part – its animation. But its just far funnier when they do.

I am really eager to see how they play out this episode.
