Not many films have run the 400 Million Dollar Mile. In fact, only 4 have. (6 if you count that Star Wars and E.T. crept past 400 million with their 20 year anniversary re-releases.) – But strictly based on a one time release slot, only 4 films have run the marathon. Reaching the goal line, until recently, in 66 days. The Phantom Menace made it to 400 M’s in 67 days. 66 days is a tied record between Spiderman and (I know, I know) Titanic.
As of yesterday’s box office count, Shrek 2 has stepped up and squashed that close knit record by humping the 400 mark in 43 days – that’s less than a month and half and more than 3 weeks faster than the previous record. I guess we’ll have to see if Spidey 2 will give it a run.
Star Wars and E.T. are likely tied for 5th place by crossing the 400 mark in roughly 7348 days. So close.
