Darren ARonofsky’s The Fountain is edging closer and closer to an actual start and this makes Bubba a happy boy indeed. Aronofsky’s one of my absolute favorite film makers and I’d been itching to see what he would come up with after Requiem For A Dream so I was left bitterly disappointed when original star Brad Pitt pulled out of the production a mere week before shooting was scheduled to start, reportedly because he didn’t understand the script. The project was left in limbo with Pitt’s departure and only emerged from development hell earlier this year when Hugh Jackman stepped into the vacant role. Well, now Jackman’s got himself a leading lady in Rachel Weisz. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Weisz has stepped into the role originally held by Cate Blanchett – a role I was pretty sure Blanchett still had. Not sure whether the change was due to chemistry, availablity or budget reasons – the Jackman Fountain is getting a lower budget than the Pitt Fountain would have – but I’m actually pretty pleased with the choice as I’ve always felt that Weisz was pretty under rated as an actor.
Aronofsky is being incredibly tight lipped about the film’s plot but he has described it as a post-modern, post-Matrix sci-fi and has let it slip that it will jump through time with Jackman and Weisz each playing up to three different characters living over a span of a thousand years. Shooting is scheduled to start in November.
