I defy anyone over the age of 25 reading this to claim they never say the original Revenge of the Nerds (Anthony Edwards at his BEST). It was one of those movies that was pretty good at best… and yet was wildly popular. Much like the Police Academy franchise, it went on to do several sequels that never lived up to the original. Now the idea is brewing to remake this 80’s classic. Cinema Confidential gives us this:
Variety reports today that Fox Searchlight is looking to resurrect the famous “Nerds” franchise with a remake of the 1984 classic “Revenge of the Nerds.” Adam Brody (TV’s “The OC”) and Brett Harrison (TV’s “Grounded for Life”) are slated to produce the feature. Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah will pen the screenplay.
This all looks good (at least as good as it can. The idea has market potential… but this one will all depend on it’s execution and marketing. Let’s keep an eye on this one.
