BBC news is talking about the possibility of Ben Kingsley playingDr Jack Kevorkian, a Doctor who is famed for his active endorsement of euthanasia. Currently behind bars he is offering support and access to his private papers to the Director, Barbara Kopple who stated:
“I don’t intend to make a film that bolsters euthanasia. This is a story about an extraordinary life. No matter what you think of Kevorkian, he is a genius.”
So, no shortage of controversy in this movie then. I think this is good to see, more movies that are not mainstream and safe, and another movie that is dealing with real life events and circumstances, perhaps even offering a chance to educate and inform through entertainment. I say more of that style of movie… just as long as they don’t become preachy, or provide an agenda for those who can exploit it.
