So soon after Saw, and the announcement of Saw 2, it appears that Lions Gate studios are looking for a buyer.
According to the Guardian, a number of other Studios have already passed on the offer:
So far, Comcast, Viacom and Sony have all passed.
An earlier story in the week from Coming Soon tells us:
Lions Gate has not formally retained Citigroup, but has told the investment bank that it is open to hearing offers from potential buyers.
After the success of Saw and the quickly announced Saw 2 things start to make sense, was the announcement made quickly to make a decent sale? Was that the intention all along?
If so and I was one of the newly signed up makers of Saw, now signed up for Saw 2, I would be seriously concerned. If the Studio sells what is the likelyhood that their contracts will be honoured and the follow up will be made? Sure, Saw made enough money, but is it something that a new Studio would go for?
Not only that, Twisted Pictures who are the Producers of Saw and Saw 2 have signed a nine picture deal with Lions Gate. Again, was this done to bolster the company or genuinely to help get some new and refreshing films out there? Maybe I’m just being a cynic!
