Nicole Kidman leaves The Producers

NicoleKidman.jpgNicole Kidman has turned away from the remake of The Producers citing the time that would be required to learn all the song and dance routines in her hectic schedule. The BBC say:

Her reps say she simply wouldn’t have the time to rehearse the intricate song and dance routines between shooting kitsch comedy Bewitched and Oz-set romantic drama Eucalyptus. Producer-writer Mel Brooks is said to be “very understanding” and the decision was made “amicably”. Hmm.

Now, I could join the fray and suggest there’s something in there, but Kidman is genuinely busy, and these routines do take a lot of time to rehearse, don’t they?

Still I think that The Producers is set for big things, with a $45 million budget and the stage show crew in line with Mel Brooks, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, it’s certainly going to be big. So I don’t really feel it’s lost a lot with the Kidman departure, it might just do it some good, there’ll be wads more budget available for one thing!

Is this another move for Hollywood now, taking the stage to screen? What are we going to see next? Aha, another story…
