…and that’s how you have the British Film Industry Mr Brown, by the…Who would you think to be the most influential people in the UK film industry? Well according to some 400 entertainment executives it’s nobody in showbusiness at all but the Chancellor of the Exchequer!
The story in the Guardian at the end of last year talked of the survey carried out by Sky Movies which asked 400 top entertainment executives on both sides of the Atlantic four questions regarding the British film industry, and the results are:
Who has been the most influential person in the film industry this year?
1. Gordon Brown
2. Michael Moore
3. Jeffrey Katzenberg
4. Peter Jackson
5. Mel GibsonWhat film has been the biggest disappointment this year?
1. Van Helsing
2. Sex Lives Of The Potato Men
3. The Ladykillers
4. Catwoman
5. TroyWhat was the best British film this year?
1. Shaun Of The Dead
2. Layer Cake
3. Girl With A Pearl Earring
4. Vera Drake
5. MillionsWho is Britain’s biggest international film star?
1. Jude Law
2. Hugh Grant
3. Catherine Zeta-Jones
4. Ewan McGregor
5. Sean Connery
Fantastic news for what everyone thought of as the best British film of the year, although surprised that Vera Drake is not higher, and what the hell is Sean Connery still doing in that list? Slap Gerard Butler or someone a bit more active in there, at least someone who finishes projects! Hugh Grant still number two? That list is messed up, totally.
However, I’m with the top five bad films, and the influential list does make sense, if a bit surprising in some areas. What do all you Brits and non-Brits out there think? Did they get it right? Is it a fair representation of the truth?
