Following on from the post about The Good German, there’s been a new addition to the cast, from Coming Soon:
Tobey Maguire has joined George Clooney and Cate Blanchett in The Good German, the Steven Soderbergh-directed adaptation of the Joseph Kanon novel for Warner Bros.
The drama follows an American journalist (Clooney) drawn into a murder mystery in post-war Berlin, where he’s searching for his wartime mistress (Blanchett). Maguire will play a seemingly innocent soldier who drives the journalist around town and has motives of his own.
Paul Attanasio wrote the film’s script. The Good German will be shot in black-and-white on WB’s soundstages.
It’s interesting that they’ve chosen to shoot in black and white, I think that’s a big gamble for the movie and that they will be relying more on the big names to pull the audience in. No problem there then, they have the male and female led audiences covered! I can’t tell yet if I’m interested in this, or I’m just being dazzled by the stars, I think the latter so far, although it will be interesting to see how Maguire plays out in this and what his role really is about.
