Breakfast Club, Usual Suspects and Gladiator sequels

BreakfastClub.jpgI know I’ll probably get bashed from John for writing all these together, but really there’s not enough news for single stories and I can sense frustration – it’s really not that hard to see it – out there for the sequel stories. So let’s just chuck these together and get them over with.

Yes, the gossip out there (and some of it really is just gossip) is that these are all up for sequelisation.

Usual Suspects:

Sydney Confidential is reporting that Kevin Spacey will be growing his hair back after working with Bryan Singer as Lex Luthor for “Superman Returns,” currently shooting in Australia right now.

Comment:
What? that’s it? He’s growing his hair back and now sites across the Internet are grabbing on the story that he might be doing a sequel? Excuse me everyone, he is big in British Theatre right now and is set to return to the stage. Would that not mean growing his hair back?

A sequel to Oscar-winning film Gladiator is in the works, according to Djimon Hounsou…
…Hounsou, who played Juba in the original film, said: “They’re not happy about what they have for now, so they’re still working on it.”
He added: “I would probably be in the centre of it as one of the leads.”

Comment: Okay, here we have an actor who was not a lead in the first movie saying that he would “probably” be in the second movie and as a lead. It’s also reported elsewhere that he would like there to be a sequel. The fact that “they” are unhappy with what they have could mean a couple of screenwriters don’t like their own draft…whoever they might be. I’m not going to leap all over this one until we hear some more concrete news from a concrete source. Anyway, everyone’s dead from the first movie, including the King who resurrected Gladiators to keep his people happy during war. Isn’t that all over and done with now?

EMILIO ESTEVEZ has signed on to appear in a sequel to cult Brat Pack movie THE BREAKFAST CLUB, despite missing out on joining his castmates for a MTV Movie Awards reunion last month (JUN05)…
…But Estevez…urges fans of the film not to take his no-show as a sign he’s not interested in a planned sequel.
He adds, “John’s got an idea for a sequel – mature aged students at college, all doing time again – for some reason or another.
“The twist would be that we’re all the polar opposites of how we were in the original. JUDD (NELSON), for instance, would now be the straight-laced one. I’m definitely in. If it happens, I’m there.”

Comment: Now I suspect there will be some interest from you guys in this one. The original was great and there’s been a lot of talk since the MTV appearance of some of the cast. If Estevez’ comments are correct then it looks like there might just be a sequel on the cards. Although I’m not sure about the recreating of the whole event in the future, I do like the idea of twisting round the parts. We’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think of all these sequels? Any take your fancy, or any just drive you mad?
