My straight instinct is no. He’s too bulky and not tall enough to play the cycling god that is Lance Armstrong, as he roars to another Tour de France win. Yet that’s the news that Coming Soon is posting.
His story, of an amazing comeback from cancer, is certainly worthy of the big-screen treatment, and Armstrong tells Men’s Journal he has a possible candidate in mind to play him in a biopic.
“I’ve had the chance to get to know Matt Damon. He is a fan of cycling and has a connection to cancer. He has even expressed an interest in the role,” Armstrong said in the magazine.
For those of you who don’t know why Armstrong is so amazing, apart from winning this great race six times (I hope I can edit that tomorrow and change it to seven…not much chance of anything else I think), is that he recovered from testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and his brain to race!
After his miraculous recovery, Armstrong started the 1999 Tour de France on the United States Postal Service team and won the event. He went on to win five more consecutive years.
He’s an amazing hero for anyone suffering from serious illness, and even for all of us, and his story would make for a fantastic movie. However, I’m not keen on Damon in this role. Someone who would be great for the role though, Ioan Gruffudd, he’s perfect for the role isn’t he? Or do you have a better choice?
