Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) has been cast to star along side Will Ferrell in Ferrell’s upcoming comedy about NASCAR racing (reportedly to be titled “Talladega Knights”). Will Ferrell’s character’s name in the film (a NASCAR driver) is Ricky Bobby. That’s enough right there to get me interested in the film.
I think this is great news. Ali G was a funny HBO property, and quite off the wall (although sometimes it really did fall flat… but it was never affraid to take a chance on something). The good folks over at TimeOut give us this:
In a meeting of two seriously funny minds, Sacha Baron Cohen has been cast opposite Will Ferrell in a new film about NASCAR racing.
The ‘Ali G Indahouse’ star, who recently won plaudits across the pond for his HBO comedy series and a scene-stealing vocal performance in ‘Madagascar’, will play gay, French Formula One driver Jean Girard in the forthcoming film.
Yeah sign me up. One of these days we’re all going to get sick and tired of Will Ferrell… but that day hasn’t come yet for me.
