Without a doubt Maradona is a footballing legend, and he’s still regarded as a hero in Argentina, and in England he’s still regarded with much disdain! Having had his name across the world newspapers throughout his life for good and bad reasons, he’s moved onto the world of film with a documentary having already been made. Now though, according to the BBC, they’re going to make a movie of the man:
Diego Maradona has agreed to let Italian director Marco Risi make a movie about his life, according to the film-maker.
The film will be called La Mano di Dio, or The Hand of God, the phrase Maradona used to explain how he scored a goal against England with his hand in 1986…
…A Maradona documentary is already being made by director Emir Kusturica. Risi, son of director Dino Risi, is one of Italy’s leading film-makers…
…”I think of him as a genius,” he said. “Soccer exists before and after Maradona. It’s like Van Gogh in painting or Charlie Parker in music.”
Risi plans to start filming in October and is looking for an Argentine actor to play the footballer, he said.
“Then Hand of God” eh? Now there’s an interesting title! Currently listed on IMDB as simply Maradona.
Any Argentinian film fans out there who can recommend someone, or indeed get in there themselves? What do you think (particularly the English) of the idea of a movie of his life? Personally, considering the number of hells he’s been through in his life I think it might make for an interesting film, however I don’t really know that much about him. What are your thoughts?
