Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World is written by, directed by and stars Albert Brooks… which is totally good enough to get me pumped about seeing it. I think Brooks is one of the truly funniest and intelligent minds in comedy today. I still remember the first time I really noticed him… it was in the brilliant Broadcast News. Man he almost stole the whole show in that film.
Anyway, now he comes along with Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World. If you haven’t heard of it yet… here’s the simple synopsis:
To improve their relations with Muslim countries, The U.S. Government assigns comedian Albert Brooks to find out what makes the Muslim people laugh.
That’s it. The trailer looks wonderful and had me giggling from the very first line of it: “Millions of Muslims around the world hate our guts”. Brooks has done some real stinkers… but you’ve gotta admire his moxy for doing a project like this one. I hope it’s as funny as it looks.
