Mission Impossible 3 more character driven?

MI3.jpgAn attempted interview with Michelle Monaghan, and I say attempted because really there was not much she could say outwith her tight contract, from Zap2it has a few titbits about the new M:I3.

“The great thing about this script for ‘Mission’ is that it explores Ethan Hunt’s home life,” she says tentatively. “You see a lot of drama in that. If you can imagine, it’s J.J. Abrams — it’s ‘Lost,’ it’s ‘Alias’ — so of course you’re gonna have all of those bits where it’s shoot-em-up, you’re gonna have this action, but you’re also gonna have a lot of drama.”

She continues, “He’s a wonderful writer, so you’re gonna find that this one’s a lot more character-driven than I think you’ve seen in the past.”…

…Monaghan admits that she’s spent recent days on a simulation machine learning to snowboard for the movie. The question of where her character will be snowboarding or in what context, though, is greeted with more vagaries.

“We don’t know yet,” she says. “Somewhere. They haven’t figured out where or when there’s going to be snow. I say we just shoot it on the machine, just blue screen it.”

So it sounds like there will be the usual big action sequences, but Abrams magic writing skills will explore some of the character that is Hunt, or so we would hope. I quite like that idea, and it would be better than going a full action route as most movie series of this type go.

If anyone can do it, it’s Abrams…agree?
