Horror films feature violence!

Screamer.jpgWell knock me down with a 2 by 4 and beat my head in with a brick, would you believe it but the latest report is stating that Horror films feature violent acts!

Yes, I could hardly believe it either, and being the scientist and sceptic I am I really needed hard facts to convince me. So that’s exactly what one media company has done. They’ve gone and counted the number of violent acts in over 100 horror movies…obviously it was a slow day…or their digitising was taking a long time. From Cinematical

Separating their monster search into 13 different categories, Media Data Company has found a total of 1,374 violent incidents. Wait, it totally gets so much better – check out these categories: Bite Injury, Charred Skin, Decapitation, Decomposition, Disfigurement, Electrocution, Transmogrification, Impalement, Protruding Object, Severed Limb, Skeletal Remains, Twisting Body Part and Entrails…

…the award for the most amount of violence in a recent film goes to — drum roll — Freddy vs. Jason! Throughout its 97 minute running time, this modern classic rung up 86 impalings, 20 severed limbs and 14 electrocutions for a total of 167 violent acts. Finishing a somewhat distant second was Jaws, with its 49 bite injuries and 27 impalings amongst 105 violent images.

Wow…if I can beat Erik to the job queue I’m asking if they have anything going over at that company. What tough work watching all those movies! Wait a minute though, what’s this at number 2?…

Spielberg’s revered and still terrifying “Jaws” from 1975 came in second, with 49 bite injuries and 27 impalings among its 105 violent images.

What? That’s not a horror! Is this just a waste of time or what, and what the hell is Jaws doing in a horror category?
