I’m a big Martin Scorsese fan, I love the man’s approach to fimmaking and usually end up enjoying his finished product too. The man is fearless and totally uncompromising when it comes to him films. And like his films or hate them, you have to admit most Martin Scorsese films are bold and tells stories with a definite edge to them.
As Richard posted about earlier, after finishing with The Departed, Martin Scorsese will be working on “Silence”, a film about Portuguese priests who move to Japan in the 17th century to convert the country to Christianity. But the news today is that Scorsese is now saying that will be his final Hollywood production and will focus on short films and documentaries after that. The good folks over at Hollywood.Com give us this:
Scorsese wants to focus more on documentaries, like his recent film about rock legend Bob Dylan. He made the announcement at the Marrakech International Film Festival in Morocco.
If this is true it isn’t really all that surprising if you think about it. Scorsese has just about done everything there is to do in Hollywood, he’s getting older and perhaps he now just wants to enjoy the challenge of new and more artistic forms in his art. If this is true… it’ll be a sad day for feature film fans… but perhaps a great day for short and documentary film fans.
