Slasher documentary

Slasher.jpgFrom Reuters through Yahoo the news is that there’s a new documentary on the move by Jeff McQueen is to film a documentary called Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film, and his take sounds quite interesting:

“We’re planning to emulate the surprises, twists and turns of the slasher film,” said director Jeff McQueen. “We intend to do some things from a story perspective to give a little bit of a scare to our audience.”

How they’re going to do that in a documentary is beyond me, but it would make for good viewing! There looks set to be some good interviews with Directors such as Wes Craven and Eli Roth, as well as critics who have been responsible for cutting up the slasher classics as well as those who have bowed down before the feet of the heady slasher.

The film is based on the eponymous book by Adam Rockoff.

That’s the book of the same name. I think this will be an interesting documentary, especially if they pull off the style they are talking about. I do like analysis of the history of movies, as long as it’s done with a wad of humility and doesn’t over egg what is after all just entertainment. Sometimes these shows can spoil what the movies are about.
