Zathura is one of those movies that my mind has changed on as the marketing campaign progressed. With the first trailer I thought Zathura looked just plain silly… but by the time the last Zathura trailer came out I found myself oddly interested in seeing it. And now here comes the Zathura reviews.
The Zathura reviews are currently pretty split, but leaning to the positive side surprisingly enough. Currently it’s holding a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I expect that number to probably hold pretty solid. Here’s what some of the critics have to say:
“Some pals and I subscribe to the popular theory that any movie is automatically worth watching if it contains (a) jet packs or (b) a giant robot. Zathura has both.”
Sean Burns, PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY“Favreau again delivers that rare beast — a family film that even childless adults can enjoy.”
John DeFore, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER“With two screaming boys yelling at each other for most of the film, you really want to smack both of them, tell them to shut the hell up and play the game.”
Stefan Halley, HERO REALM“A beautiful film, a return to movie-making craftsmanship that’s gone by the wayside in a wave of cubicle nerds carelessly rendering spaceships on their Apple computers.”

So mark me down as mildly looking forward to seeing this film. If nothing else, the latest trailers visually looked amazing, and I’m a sucker for that kind of thing.
