From the face of it Spike Lee‘s new thriller Inside Man looks like many other Hostage-Negotiator dramas, even one that Denzel Washington himself has been in, albeit on the other side. Yet there’s something different about this, and something that builds up through the progress of the trailer that makes you realise there’s a lot more to this one than the one line blurb.
The trailer is on Apple found through JoBlo. They say it looks a standard thriller, but watching it and realising that the cast has Washington, Clive Owen, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Plummer and Jodie Foster (who is very selective about her scripts) and that Lee is directing, all points to something more.
It certainly looks good, and Owen sounds great, while Foster looks like she’ll play a deliciously slimey official, also the cinematography looks very nice. Yet I’m concerned we’ll see Washington do the stock Washington character…Although I think he’s a great actor, he’s just always on the same ground so often.
What do you think after watching it? Is Lee giving us something special here? Oh, and I’m not even going to mention that Thierry Henry the footballer is in it…oh I did! DAMN!
