I’m sure there’s not many of you who actually watched the original Grange Hill series on UK Television – I just say that name and the theme poors into my head so easily – well for all of you, and the recent additions to the fan club through the newer series, comes a wonderful surprise. Grange Hill the movie.
Tucker, Stewpot, Roland, Mrs McClusky, Zammo and the rest may all be far from the school gates now, but this school based soap opera looks set to come to the big screen if the creator Phil Redmond has anything to do with it. From Time Out:
The show, which revolves around life in an inner city comprehensive school, first started in 1978 and has run for an amazing 29 series…
…Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Redmond said: ‘I have been thinking about the idea for two years. I’m writing the script now and should be ready to start shooting in spring 2007 for an autumn release.
‘I will be filming in and around Merseyside and I’ll look at where some of the old characters are now and what happened to them.’
What?! They might well be back? Oh that makes me smile! Redmond is well credited with turning around the boring soap formula on UK television and bringing some hard hitting reality to it. Grange Hill often covered stories of drugs, bullying and teen pregnancy well before the Government even thought they existed.
Come on fans, any Grange Hill-ers out there remember the original series? Anyone actually want to see a movie about it all?
