I really enjoyed Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon… although not as much as some of its rabid fans. Still, it was a great film. WIth it’s success (both at the box office and critically) I’m actually shocked a sequel hasn’t been made to it already. But don’t you worry folks… where there is money to be made… a sequel will be made, or in this case PREQUELS
The good folks over at Coming Soon offer us this:
Bob and Harvey Weinstein are planning to bring a legit version of martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to the stage, and are also developing the five books that encompass “Tiger” as a film franchise of three prequels and a sequel, reports Variety.
They have acquired worldwide rights to develop and produce a stage adaptation of Chinese author Wang Du Lu’s “Crane — Iron Pentalogy,” a series of novels that includes “Tiger” as its fourth installment.
This in an interesting idea. Develop a whole franchise around a film that was it’s 4th part. The article goes on to say that the Weinsteins are going to try to get original Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon director Ang Lee on board with the projects (which is a good idea). However, with that shinny new Oscar on his mantle Lee can do just about anything he wants now…. and I doubt going back to the Tiger Dragon story is something he’s interested in right now. But who knows right?
