Grudge 2 News

I wasn’t all that impressed the the North American version of “The Grudge“. Where the original Asian version had me freaked out beyond belief, the Sarah Michelle Gellar version left me really underwhelmed and bored. However, I’m willing to give Grudge 2 a shot.

Recently, Grudge 2 director Takashi Shimizu sat down and talked with the good folks over at Sci Fi Wire and gave some insight on Grudge 2 which is now in production. Here’s what he had to say:

Speaking during a break in filming April 3 on the sequel’s set at Tokyo’s famed Toho Studios, Shimizu said through a translator: “For The Grudge 2, I was going for this mystery that was never there in Grudge 1, and I think that’s going to fulfill the audience. … There’s a secret about Kayako’s childhood life, so that’s part of the big mystery. And the other mystery is, this grudge will never stop, and it’s going to … spread. And how is it going to get spread? That’s another mystery.”

I really hope they can recapture some of that erie dread that the original Asian version of The Grudge was able to emote… because the N.A. version sure didn’t. I have hope.
