I just loved the old 80’s film “Remo WIlliams The Adventure Begins” (ok, it was a stupid title, but I thought the moved was awesome). In it, Fred Ward plays a good cops whose death is faked so he can be recruited into a secret government organization that takes out bad guys OUTSIDE of the scope of the law.
Remo is trained by a Korean Master named Chuin, who in my opinion is still one of the funniest side characters in film history. He’s arrogant, racist, chauvinist and an all around pig… but man is he funny. My favorite line of his in the movie was “Women should stay home and have babies. Preferably man child”. Oh that’s soooo wrong… but so damn funny.
Anyway, Remo Williams is based on the book “The Destroyer”, and it look like it may be resurrected again. The good folks over at AICN give us this:
Seems Robert Evans…yes…Robert Evans…has secured rights to THE DESTORYER. Film…TV…games…the works. Will Evans, who produced MARATHON MAN, BLACK SUNDAY, and CHINATOWN, give Remo his balls back by delivering a kick ass, socially satirical, hard-driving action fest? Or, will he be bludgeoned by the Robert Evans who gave us POPEYE, THE PHANTOM, or SLIVER?
If they do indeed remake and re-envision the whole Remo WIlliams project, I’d like to see Fred Ward back. Not as Remo… but maybe in Wilford Brimley’s old role. That would be cool to see. If you haven’t seen Remo Williams, you really should… even if it’s just just to hear Chuin!
Oh oh oh… another great Chuin quote: “You did not ask to be white. So perhaps that is not your fault. You did not ask to be here. Perhaps that is not your fault, either.”
Ok… just one more: “Chinese! I am Korean. Korean is the most perfect creature ever to sanctify the earth with the imprint of its foot.”
