A Swedish TV station has been sued… and LOST… over showing commercials during a movie!!! Yes, you read that right. The lawsuit was brought against them for violating the artistic integrity of the filmmakers by interrupting their movies with commercial breaks!
The good folks over at Yahoo Movies give us this:
The two movies, Sjoman’s “Alfred” and Eriksson’s “The Shark Who Knew Too Much” were made before Swedish broadcasting laws allowed commercial stations to interrupt movies with advertisements, and the Svea Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling saying the station violated the directors’ integrity and copyright, since they had not given permission for the breaks.
Holy crap! How on earth did Swedish TV make any money on showing movies if they couldn’t show commercials before?!?!?! No wonder they changed the law.
But still… imagine if we as a movie audience were able to sue the movie industry for showing commercials to us at the time the ads said the movie would start! Could we sue them for violating our viewing integrity????
