Len Wiseman, director of the first 2 Underworld films has apparently been signed up to direct the new Die Hard 4.0. The good folks over at AICN give us the following:
Fox, in an attempt to always find a better director than the last time out, has gone from John McTiernan to Len Wiseman, director of the UNDERWORLD films for their next installment of DIE HARD… which is apparently being called DIE HARD 4.0, where John McClane comes out of retirement to fight a gang of vicious Internet Terrorists! I’m sure they’re not talking about John McClane fighting a group of geeks that have been doing person-2-person dvd burning or downloading of films currently in theaters… or… maybe they are.
Ok, now on the surface some people might think to themselves “This sucks” because they didn’t like the Underworld films. I however… even thought Underworld didn’t live up to it’s potential and Underworld 2 blew monkey balls… think this is pretty good news.
The weakness of Underworld was never really with the performances… nor was there a problem with the action… or the cinematography (which was actually pretty kick ass in both films). The problem with both of them was the weak story. To be honest… I didn’t think Wiseman did a bad job directing the films. He just did a bad job writing them.
Wiseman won’t be writing Die Hard 4.0 (since they already have a script). Letting this guy just take the director’s chair is not a bad move in my opinion. I think it could work out well. Thanks to Hamid for the heads up.
