Fantastic Four 2 Moving To Avoid Transformers

The Studio has just announced that Fantastic Four 2 is moving from its July 4th 2007 date. Its new release date is June 15th. And my friends, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why. Another film is opening July 4th… The Transformers. Head to head, Fantastic 4 has no chance in hell and they knew it.

But, as our good friends over at JoBlo have pointed out, this is actually a really smart move on their part since the strategy has worked for them before:

Last year, the original film was shifted in order to avoid competition from Steven Spielberg’s box office titan WAR OF THE WORLDS and this time, the movie is being done similarly to avoid the sure-to-be box office titan TRANSFORMERS (also a film involving Spielberg but directed by Michael Bay). The move proved to be very smart last year with FANTASTIC FOUR guttling a significant chunk of the box office,

I’m glad they made this move… because even though the first FF was a mess… I still liked watching it (I must have mental problems). And if it opens the same weekend as Transformers… well there’s no way I’d be able to fit in 6 viewings of Transformers AND a viewing of FF on the same weekend.

Damn I’m a loser.
