I’ve said it a hundred times. Not only is Pixar hands down the best studio for animated movies in history… but they are also hands the the best studio PERIOD. There are two reasons for this. One is the visionary approach that Steve Jobs takes to everything. Second is the pure genius of John Lasseter, who is himself directing the newest Pixar flick “Cars” (which by the way, some critics are saying could be the best Pixar film to date).
The good folks over at Coming Soon had an interview with the man recently. It’s a great read… but ONE QUESTION IN PARTICULAR caught my attention… and his answer to that question is why this man should be running Hollywood. Here’s what he has to say:
QUESTION: When you decide to direct again, what was your criteria for picking the movie you wanted to direct?
JOHN LASSETER ANSWER (READ THIS!!!!): At Pixar, the movies are director driven. What I mean by that is that the stories that the directors choose, they write and they come from their own heart. We’re the only studio that’s like that. All the other studios are executive-driven. The movies are picked by executives in development and directors are assigned to them. In the case of me, I pick stuff I like, you know? It’s like toys… bugs… more toys… and now “Cars.” When I was making “Bug’s Life” I came up with the idea of doing something with cars. I grew up in Los Angeles, and as you know, it’s car culture capitol.
Once again I say “This man should be running all of Hollywood”.
