Should Actors Do Their Own Stunts?

We all know celebrities like to do stunts from time to time when starring in a movie. Tom Cruise almost had his head sliced off during The Last Samurai and in an April interview he said he seperated six ribs while performing a stunt in Mission Impossible III. Orlando bloom also broke a rib after falling off a horse on the set of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Halle Berry smashed her pretty head into a light while filming Catwoman. I feel sorry for Halle because Catwoman was utter shit, so that mishap was for nothing. Halle also broke her arm on the set of Gothika and scratched her cornea while doing a stunt on the set of Die Another Day.

Should clebs do their own stunts? We all know what happened to Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow. I belive to some degree clebs should perform their own stunts if they want to, but there has to be a line where the director must say ”NO” or Halle will continue to brake more limbs.

David Boushey, president of the United Stuntmen’s Association has said “They believe their own press. Someone calls them an action hero, and so consequently, they feel they’ve got to live up to their ‘quote’ image, and so they put themselves in harm’s way.”

I belive this is one of the reasons why so many stars want to preform their owns stunts but I also think it’s ego driven aswell. An actor may belive they are a huge star and can do anything. Directors should be to blame also as they have the power to stop an actor from doing a dangerous stunt. Directors have stuntmen and stuntwoman, for Gods sake use them, thats their job.
