Viggo Mortensen in Good

Viggo-Mortensen-GoodViggo Mortensen is probably doomed to always simply be remembered as Aragorn… but hey, that’s not a bad thing. The man is a solid actor and he’s already shown that he call pull off more than a dreamy hobbit gang leader. Well the next project he has lined up for himself will test just how good he is.

The new film project “Good” (based on a stage play by the same name, looks at the life of a German professor during the rise of the Nazi party. The good folks over at Cinemablend give us this:

(Mortensen) will play a German professor in the 30’s who allows himself to be seduced by the Nazi party. Proof that even educated people can be lured in by carefully disguised propaganda. As the professor gets deeper and deeper into the Nazi movement, he’s able to rationalize everything, right up to betraying his family, his Jewish friends, and his own morality. The story ends with him standing in an SS uniform at Auschwitz happily marching Jews to their deaths.

Wow… not exactly your typical Saturday afternoon popcorn flick.

I’ll resist the temptation to draw parallels to todays political climate in the US, but needless to say it sounds like there will be something in there for us all to think about. Life is about choices… sometimes choices seem like good ones at the time, and it’s not until we can look back in them in hindsight that we understand the mistakes we’ve made… or see our evolution as individuals. This is all far too deep for a Thrursday morning. Bottom line: This project sounds amazing! Can’t wait for it.
