I actually liked the first Hulk film with Eric Bana. I know most fans didn’t… but I thought it was a refreshing shift from the typical comic book movie. But I still wanna see more “Hulk Smash” as much as anyone.
As you already know (if you read The Movie Blog daily), Marvel has announced that they’re doing another Hulk film… BUT THIS IS NOT A SEQUEL. It’s a “do over”. They’re starting again from scratch and pretending the other one doesn’t exist. They’ve said they’re going to focus more on the action of The Hulk this time.
But something interesting has just come out. Apparently Eric Bana (quickly becoming one of my favorite actors) is still interested in playing the Hulk. The good folks over at Cinematical give us this:
Bana, however, would like to be considered. When asked recently about his thoughts on returning to the franchise (by a scooper over at Superhero Hype), he did not outright deny it, as we all expected he would. Instead, he said it depends on a lot of things, like the script, the timing and whether they want him. He’d like to, and he’s looking to talk about “that one real soon.”
That’s really interesting. I mean Eric Bana is one of the best actors out there right now (if you haven’t seen his performance in Munich, you really have to). So having him back for the next Hulk would be a good idea right? Well… maybe not.
If Marvel is really trying to say this next Hulk film is a re-start… then wouldn’t having the lead guy from the first film be a mistake? Wouldn’t then just essentially be seen as a sequel no matter what they do? I LOVE Eric Bana… but I think The Hulk needs to move forward without him… unless they change their minds and do Hulk as a Sequel.
