Oh no… oh no no no. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. When a studio refuses to let critics see a film in advance to review… it can only mean one thing. They (the studio) don’t have faith in the film and don’t want word to get out about it before opening weekend where they can get as much money as possible before bad word of mouth gets around.
Look, no movie in HISTORY has been able to ride public hype like Snakes on a Plane has. For the next few years it will be a case study on how to utilize viral and populous marketing. IF FOR ONE MINUTE THE STUDIO THOUGHT THEY COULD ADD TO THAT HYPE WITH GLOWING REVIEWS, THEY WOULD BE ALL OVER IT!!!
But no… they’re not. And that my friends, is the first VERY BAD sign we’ve seen from Snakes on a Plane… and I’m really worried now.
Here is the bullshit excuse the studio gives us:
“Understanding that they would be the driving force behind the film, we decided early on they should be the first to see it,” the studio said. “They will have the opportunity on Thursday evening, Aug. 17, at 10 p.m. shows across the country. We are not planning any advance media or promotional screenings prior to that.”
Yeah… just let me clear my throat for a moment… ahem…. BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT. Don’t you dare use the “fans” as your excuse. You could care less about the fans and you know it. You care about the bottom line… the money. And you know what… YOU’RE ALLOWED to care about the money… that’s your business… we understand that. But don’t you lie to us.
I’ve suddenly got a very very bad feeling about this. Man I hope I’m wrong. (via)
