Well… true to their word, Marvel has indeed announced a director for “The Incredible Hulk”. And I’ve got to say it is the PERFECT choice for a film like this one. Action director Louis Leterrier (who directed the Transporter movies and Jet Li’s Unleashed) is singed up and ready to go.
Considering what most people were HOPING for from the first Hulk film (lots and lots of nothing but “Hulk Smash Puny Humans”), this should be welcome news. No, we’re not going to get the depth or character development that Ang Lee brought to The Hulk, but we’re pretty much guaranteed to get and ass load of people being thrown 2-3 miles, cars smashing into faces, giant tanksbeing crushed like beer cans and Hulk and The Abomination fighting it out and destroying whole cities in the process. Fun for all.
The good folks over at Coming Soon give us this:
The trade says Arad and Feige first met with Leterrier two years ago and were struck by his passion for the Marvel Comics universe. It was that passion that shone through recently when — after approached to gauge his interest in directing a new Hulk movie — Paris-based Leterrier went back to his studio and, with the help of an artist, storyboarded two action sequences and developed a take on the monster.
HAHAHA!!! Did you read that? They didn’t hire him for his story ideas… they hired him for his ACTION SEQUENCES ideas! I think that will put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.
I loved the first Hulk film… but in this next one… this is what we really want. Dialog is optional. Plot flexable. Story if there must be one. But action… action action action is the order for the day. And it looks like they got the right guy to do it.
