Death Race 3000

death-race-3000.jpg The cult classic Death Race 2000 gets an update in Death Race 3000. This may have been the entire basis of games like Twisted Metal and the inspiration for the Road Warriors, and now an entire generation never once exposed to this by accident will get to relive it all in a retooling of the original.

One thing it doesnt have? A script. I’d say the lack of a director was a setback, but since Paul W.S. Anderson is no longer attached to the project, it’s pretty much headed in a good direction.

Fangoria gives us this:

“I have made an option agreement with Tom Cruise to produce DEATH RACE 3000, with Tom playing the lead,” Corman explains; Paul W.S. (RESIDENT EVIL) Anderson was at one point attached to write and direct. “However, it is now two years old and we have had two screenplays so far, and Tom isn’t happy with either of them, so we are working on a third script. If that doesn’t work, then I am going to take the project back and produce it independently myself.”

I don’t know which idea seems more promising. Producing the movie independantly, or hoping Tom Loopy Cruise backs your project.

Im sure we will hear more about this as time comes.
