HAHAHA!!! Halo Announces It’s “Director”

Big Halo news on several fronts.

First of all… my original prediction that Halo would never ever ever make it’s first announced 2007 release date was correct

Second, My prediction that Halo wouldn’t come out until 2009 was DEAD WRONG (at least for now).  It’s been announced that 2008 is the release date (I won’t hold my breath though… they’ve changed years before).

Third… and most imortantly… THEY’VE HIRED A DIRECTOR!  This is a MAJOR step in the right direction.  This is the first good news to come out of this project in over a year.

HOWEVER… this should be pointed out.  Last year I put up a now infamous post about how NO LEGITIMATE “A” LIST DIRECTOR WILL EVER AGREE TO DIRECT HALO.  Tons of Halo fans called me insane and lots of other names, that “A” list directors would be lining up to do Halo.  HAHAHA!!!  Guess what… they couldn’t even get a “B” list director.  They got Neill Blomkamp.

Who is Neill Blomkamp you may ask?  Well… there is a reason you’ve never heard of him… BECAUSE HE’S NEVER DONE A FEATURE FILM BEFORE!!

This is from the official XBOX site (Thanks to Chark for the heads up):

The Halo motion picture will be helmed by Neill Blomkamp, making his feature film debut. Blomkamp is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and original artists currently working in short films and commercial advertising.

Oh my sweet goodness. They’re handing a project like Halo over to someone who has never even directed a feature film.

I’m sure all of you who called me names and insisted Halo would get a great director are already starting to compose you’re apologies to me and will be emailing them shortly. I’ll just sit hear and wait for them to come in.

Yeah… a great idea… someone who has never worked with a budget over $3 million is going to over see Halo.

As Chark pointed out to me in his email… Lucas and Spielberg had to get their start somwhere too. And that’s true. But not on a $150 million dollar VFX heavy full featured project with a HUGE fan base with VERY HIGH expectations.

Don’t get me wrong.  If Bungie told me to go out and get a director who hasn’t ever worked on a feature film before and has done nothing but commercials and shorts… then this would be the guy I’d get.

Let the spin doctoring begin!
