Who better to put in a movie about rich kids who lose it all and cant deal with the simple things life throws your way than Disney’s golden cash heaped cutie Hilary Duff and her sister Hailey. This is a typical story for Hilary’s target audience, but will she keep making these kind of movies?
MovieWeb reports:
Hilary, the younger sister at eighteen, is pretty much a pop icon with her generation. Haylie, who’s twenty-one, is probably most recognized for her role as “Summer” in the indie-hit Napoleon Dynamite. Material Girls is geared towards the teenage girl set. But the girlie days might be over soon as the Duff sisters reach for an older audience.
I think Hillary Duff is only a pop icon because Disney made her into one. She was very successful with her kids show Lizzie Maguire, and she shows she is the clean cute offscreen role model any parent can enjoy their kids following. (Unlike some other Disney created superstars) But the idea that she would want to start appealing to a more adult target audience makes me hesitate.
Hopefully she will take this serious and actually get some real skills to deserve something more than the “after school specials” type of movie she is famous for. I have enjoyed the light hearted morally clean movies she tends to star in, but at the same time, I don’t own any of them. She is good for the parts she has done, but she hasnt really shown that she has what it takes to break out of that role.
In the mean time, Hailey can continue to tag along, and hope her little sister stays popular.
