Lethal Weapon 5

Lethal-Weapon-5One way or the other… Mel Gibson is going to be in the news. How’s this for a headline? The word going around right now is that Mel Gibson has agreed to jump on the production of Lethal Weapon 5.

The good folks over at Cinescape give us the following:

Word has it that the sobriety-challenged Mel Gibson has jumped aboard the production of “Lethal Weapon 5,” which the actor-turned-director had, until recently (read: until the events of last week) not considered joining. But, since his Holocaust mini-series has been cancelled, Gibson’s schedule has cleared up — and it wouldn’t hurt on the PR front to give fans another “Lethal Weapon.”

Personally I would LOVE to see another Lethal Weapon film. I loved every single one of them, and the “Riggs – Murtaugh” thing was probably my favorite on screen cop team ever. Always fun, always funny. Do we NEED another Lethal Weapon movie? Nope. Would I be in line to see it? Yup, you bet.

But let’s also be realistic here. If this is indeed true, then it’s obviously a Public Relations move on Gibson’s part. I don’t think for a second he suddenly woke up with a burning desire to do another Lethal Weapon movie. Announcing this now would take a little of the attention off the whole Drunk Driving thing and place it on a more positive topic.

Regardless of the motivation, I’d love to see LW5… so consider me distracted.
