Simon Pegg – How to Lose Friends and Alienate People

I just loved Simon Pegg (yes, that’s a shameless picture of me with Simon) in Shaun of the Dead (Brilliant film!). Now it looks like he’s getting yet another vehicle for his talent. A new film project about British writer Toby Young and his (true life) misadventures in New York as a writer for Vanity Fair. The good folks over at FilmFocus give us this about the book in which the project is based on:

…a male Bridget Jones? And it all really happened.. In 1995 high-flying British journalist Toby Young left London for New York to become a contributing editor at Vanity Fair . Other Brits had taken Manhattan–Alistair Cooke, Tina Brown, Anna Wintour–so why couldn’t he?But things didn’t quite go according to plan. Within the space of two years he was fired from Vanity Fair , banned from the most fashionable bar in the city, and couldn’t get a date for love or money. Even the local AA group wanted nothing to do with him.

I think this sounds hilarious. Pegg has great comedic timing, and the idea for this film is sharp. I like it.

And yes, even though we’ve seen it a dozen times, theres just something about bringing British humor into an American context that always seems to strike the right chord with me. I’m looking forward to this one.
