George Clooney Tackles Leatherheads

I have all the respect in the world for George Clooney as an artist. He probably has more pure charm than any actor alive today, he’s a terrific on screen talent, and if Good Night and Good Luck is any indication at all, the man has a great future as a director in front of him (seriously, if you haven’t seen it yet you really need to run out an rent it). Now it looks like Clooney has a new project in which he’s doing just about everything. Leatherheads.

Clooney with write, direct and star in Leatherheads, a football film of all things. The good folks over at Cinema Fusion describe the project like this:

The movie, which has Renee Zellwegger in talks to co-star, will take place in the 1920s and will follow an aging football player who tries to talk a college kid into dropping out and joining the new professional football league.

I’m curious as to what kind of approach Clooney will take with this film. Will he make is a “Moral of the story” kind of movie with comedic tones like the Coen brothers? Will he go more straight drama like Good Night and Good Luck? Not sure, but if nothing else his previous work behind the camera has me interested in anything he does next, and if that’s Leatherheads, then I’m in.
