There was a short time when Jim Carrey was almost untouchable. Hits like The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura and Liar Liar all cemented him as the top comedy name in film for a season. Then came The Truman Show and Man on the Moon which made people see there was even more to him than the comedic goof ball.
But for the last 5 or more years… everything for Carrey has just sort of fizzled. Not that his movies haven’t made money (although no big huge hits), but Carrey’s name hasn’t stood out, his reputation hasn’t grown, and his prominence in Hollywood has faded (It’s certainly not gone… just not what it once was). Add on top of that the fact that two of his most recent projects have been scrapped (Fox’s “Used Guys” and Paramount “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!”) and well… some one is going to get fired. And Carrey did just that, leaving his talent agency that he’s been with for 15 years. Reuters gives us this:
Jim Carrey has left the talent agency that nurtured his career for the past 15 years, setting off a frenzy among rival firms Wednesday to land the comic actor.
“With the possible exception of today, Jim Carrey is among the true geniuses of our generation,” the agency said. “We wish him eternal sunshine.”
I don’t know that Carrey is blaming his agency for fall from the upper echelon of movie stars… but when you’re in a bit of a slump, you need to change some things up… and that what it looks like Carrey did.
So what do you think… do you think Jim Carrey will ever be as big again as he once was?
