J.K. Rowling Wins Airport Argument

JK-Rowling-AirportAuthor and creator of the insanely Harry Potter books and movie franchise is in the process of finishing her final book in the Potter series. She apparently keeps the manuscript on her all the time, and did a lot of writing while visiting the US… in pencil. She was visiting to participate in a charity book reading with other famous authors (how sweet).

However, when she tried to board the plane to fly home, the airport security didn’t want to let her board the plane with her manuscript. I think they wanted her to check it with her luggage or something. Anyway…. Rowling refused and got into an argument with the security person… and because she’s J.K. Rowling… she won.

Now, I was initially going to write a post about a spoiled celebrity bitch getting her way just because she’s famous and throwing her weight around. However, as I started to think about it, 2 tings came to my mind:

1) Why on earth would airport security have a problem with a BOOK being carried on? I mean, if they were afraid of something being hidden IN the book… then just look through it… easy enough.

2) To be honest… If I was Rowling and I had a years worth of work in my hands that I DO NOT WANT LEAKED TO THE PUBLIC YET, then hell yeah… I wouldn’t let it out of my sight for a minute either. Who knows who could grab it, or look through it during the process. Rowling later said if they didn’t let her on board with the manuscript… she just would have taken a boat home… and you know what… I believe her.

Bottom line.. I don’t think anyone is at fault here. Rowlings actions were (in my opinion) understandable… and airport security were just doing their job. To me, it’s all good, and it ended fine.

But what do you think? Was security just being a pain in the ass? Or was Rowlings demanding special treatment? Your thought.
