John’s Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Movies

Cool-As-IceOk, in day 3 of my “Top 10” lists, I present to you my favorite Guilty Pleasure movies. Now, we should first define “guilty pleasure” here since I’ve seen about 10 definitions. For the purposes of this post, “guilty pleasure” is going to refer to movies that most people think sucks (probably rightly so) but for one reason or another I love watching. So, here we go:

1) Cool As Ice – Oh yes hommies, the Vanilla Ice spectacular. Everytime I watch this thing we laugh until we cry. “Yup yup she likes me”. “Drop that zero and git wit da Hero”. Pure cinematic gold I tell you!!! Just look at Vanilla! He’s so cool! Some would suggest cool as ice even. HAHAHA! Oh shut up.

2) Megaforce – Silver body suits never looked so good! An eliete military anti-terrorism organization that belongs to no one government equipped with all the cool new sci-fi like gadgets… oh yeah… and their leader’s name is “Ace”. YeeaaaHaaaa!

3) Oscar – Sylvester Stallone’s jump into comedy. Everyone hates this movie… but I thought it was freaking hilarious. The Kirk Douglas cameo was awesome too.

4) Death to Smoochy – What the hell is everyone’s problem?!?! I decided not to see Death to Smoochy in the theaters because almost EVERY SINGLE critic hated it… and almost all my friends who saw it hated it… so I gave it a pass. Then, about a year ago, a friend brought the dvd over to my buddy’s place and so reluctantly agreed to watch it and proceeded to LAUGH OUR BLOODY ASSES OFF!!! This film is gold! Why does everyone hate it so much?!?!

5) Moulin Rouge – It’s odd putting a film that was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars on a “guilty Pleasures” list… but I honestly find most people didn’t like this movie. I just can’t understand why. This was a beautiful styleized film. Oh well… maybe it’s just me. But come on! Who doesn’t love a movie with a Narcoleptic Argentinian?

6) UHF – The Weird Al Yankovic film that to this day makes me spit my coke out of my nose. And before there was Kramer on Seinfeld, Michael Richards was Stanley Spadowski bitches!!!

7) Daredevil – Wow everyone hates this movie. I mean REALLY hates it. But I can’t help it… I LOVED it. Saw it in the theaters 4 times and bought the DVD when it came out. HAHAHA! Oh yeah… one of my favorite soundtracks to a movie too.

8) Rocky V – Yeah… another one I have to keep a secret. For some reason, this poorly made film has qualities that really stuck with me. I enjoyed the film… yikes!

9) Armageddon – Bruce Willis, Michael Clarke Duncan, Owen Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Will Patton, Billy Bob Thornton and Ben Affleck. Great cast… fun movie… some hilarious lines… and yes… some REALLY BAD CHEESE. But what can I tell ya? I still watch this one at least once a year.

10) Hook – The Dustin Hoffman/Robin Williams “Peter Pan” movie. I confess, I LOVE this movie. I don’t own it, but I stop whatever I’m doing and watch it whenever it’s on TV. Guilty.

So there you have it, my soul laid bare and confessions made for all to see. Now it’s your turn. What films do you love to watch, that almost everyone else hates?
