Spaceballs Animated Series

Spaceballs is one hell of an entertaining movie. Yeah it’s dumb and over the top silly sometimes, but it’s big belly laugh moments are just amazing. As a matterof fact, I think Spaceballs holds my #1 all time spot for movie moments that made me laugh the hardest. You remember the scene… Dark Helmet and Lonestar are having their schwartz fight… and just as Dark Helmet is going in for the kill he proclaims:

“Now Lonestar, you will see that evil will always triumph. Because good… is dumb.”

Pure… Cinematic… GOLD!!!!

Anyway, it looks like an animated TV series is on it’s way. Our friends over at FilmJunk have this:

I’ve been pretty disappointed with G4’s recent change in programming as they continue on their quest to become the new Spike TV. But this is the first new piece of original programming that I’ve actually been interested in (much better than that atrocious Star Trek 2.0 crap), and it should connect with everyone from the hardcore geek audience to the young male college student demographic as well. 13 half-hour episodes are currently in production; Mel Brooks voices two characters and co-wrote the pilot with Spaceballs scribe Thomas Meehan. The series will reportedly parody all kinds of popular movies aside from Star Wars, but all I can think is that if they found that much stuff to lampoon in the original trilogy, they’re going to have a field day with Episodes 1 to 3! Spaceballs: The Animated Series is set to debut sometime in fall 2007.

I agree with them on all fronts. G4 is nothing but a shell of it’s former glorious self (meh, in my opinion anyway), but also that I share in their enthusiasm for this. Ever since seeing Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” last year I’ve got a renewed interest in his stuff… so this should be good. At least I hope so.
