Last month I put up a story about a little British made-for-tv film called “Death of a President” that was going to be showing at the Toronto International Film Festival. Well it showed at the film festival… and people LOVED IT! As a matter of fact, the film ended up taking the International Critics top prize when all was said and done.
It’s funny what winning a big award at arguably the best film festival in the world can do for you. Now this little “made-for-tv” is being promoted more and getting a more significant theatrical release later next month (I personally can’t wait to see it).
In it, President George W. Bush is assassinated. The project then looks at what the fallout would be after that event. ThisIsLondon.co.uk gives us this: “The two hour drama, in which events are ‘re-created’ by the use of footage and interviews, shows the media storm around the War on Terror as Muslims are fingered as the culprits before there is any evidence. In the wake of the assassination, authorities focus on a Syrian-born man in the search for the culprit.”
So the Death of a President trailer is now online for all to see. It doesn’t give us much at all, but it does let you know they’re going for a “real” feel to it, and in that regard they do a really good job. You feel like you’re actually watching history.
