There was once a time when porno was something young boys had to find discarded in the woods someplace. It was relegated to the back dark alleyways and something dad had to hide in the closet (that you knew where to find it anyway). But porn has become mainstream. Who doesn’t know the name Jenna Jameson or Ron Jeremy now? Who hasn’t head of Debbie Does Dallas… or in this specific case… Deep Throat.
Deep Throat has just made the Top 100 Landmark Films list. That may sound odd, but when you hear the rationale of one of the editors of that list… it’s hard to argue with him:
Justifying the choice, Radio Times’ film editor Andrew Collins said: “Deep Throat is not necessarily recommended for everyone — it’s a quite badly made film — but to deny its influence would be pure snobbery.”“This is not a list of the greatest movies ever made — we’ve had plenty of those already — this is a chronological journey through cinema history pinpointing those films that changed the course of the industry, for better or worse, sometimes seismically, sometimes by smaller increments.”
The boundries are being pushed more and more with what is “acceptable”. Heck, just look at the new porn… errr.. .I mean “movie” called Shortbus. How far will we go?
Well, to be honest, I don’t think it’s going to be much longer (maybe 10 years) till we see full adult films making it into mainline cinema in one form or another. The porn industry already sets the pace (and in most cases is WAY ahead of the game) when it comes to digital content, digital formats, internet marketing… and just about every other thing you can imagine over the mainline movie industry.
