Studio Ghibli Starts Production on Feature set for 2008 Release

If there was to only be ONE animation studio allowed on the planet, I would have to vote for Studio Ghibli. These are by far the BEST animated movies in creation. So imagine my excitement when I found out this news!

MovieWeb Reports:

Hayao Miyazaki (Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away) has started production on his latest as-yet-untitled animated feature, that will take about 20 months to produce, with a planned release date of summer 2008, according to Production Weekly.

The storyboards for this project are notable because they were created in watercolor and the copies distributed in color as opposed to black and white. Color storyboards are a rarity and it is the first time for Studio Ghibli.

For animation this is it for me. And I LOVE the visuals and creativity that goes into each and every one of Miyazaki’s movies. I have been a fan of his work since the graphic novel Naussica of the Valley of Wind, to which the movie version does no justice (and yet STILL rocks).

I would love to see some of those watercolour storyboards. I am sure each one is a masterpiece in itself.
