Yes that’s right, Warner Brothers has let go of the option for The Three Stooges but First Look Studios have taken over the rights. Unfortunately no production is scheduled at this time. The people over at themovieweb.com give us this:
First Look Studios has taken over the rights to The Three Stooges film after Warner Bros. let the option go. The Farrelly brothers are also off the film; they were set to write and direct. First Look is working with The Stooges’ C3 Entertainment to keep the flavor of the original Stooges slapstick, notes Variety. A new production schedule for The Three Stooges has not been scheduled.
John wrote about this being worked on by the Farrelley brothers way back in 2003, click hear to read the article. Like John I also think that a story about the life of The Three Stooges would be better than a Three Stooges movie remake, but even a remake may work if it is done with care and an understanding that no one could ever replace the originals.
While it is sad that the talented brothers are no longer involved in the project it is reasurring to know that the people who have taken it over do want to keep things true to the original slapstick. Let’s just hope that these playful characters doen’t get put on another shelf to collect dust.
