Let’s get this straight… The Shadow (the 1994 movie with Alec Baldwin) was a fricken wicked movie! I loved it, and Shiwan Khan became one of my all time favorite movie bad guys… in a cheesy yet really fun sort of way (by the way, it was so cool to see him, John Lone, pop up as Ricky Tann in Rush Hour 2).
Now there are some rumblings about Sam Raimi wanting to revisit the character. As a matter of fact, he loves The Shadow (the original print version of him… not the Alec Baldwin film). The folks over at AICN give us this:
for the last year I’ve been tracking Raimi’s development of Street and Smith Publications.
You see. Sam’s biggest passion from their catalogue is THE SHADOW. Prior to Alec Baldwin getting a nose in on the gig, Raimi was attempting to get the property at Universal – with the Coen Brothers set to write it up for him to direct. That fell through – and he made DARKMAN as a reaction. It was around this same time that he lost out on BATMAN. However, Marty Bregman thought the HIGHLANDER guy was the better route to go. Eh… 20/20 is a bitch.
So some are now saying he wants another shot at The Shadow… the guys at AICN go on to say they don’t know if this is really true or not… but for arguments sake let’s say it is for a moment. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing another Shadow film with Raimi at the helm… it could be quite interesting. I guess we’ll keep our eyes on this one and see how it unfolds.
