Beverly Hills Cop 4

Oh my sweet heavens. How on the heals of us complaining about how Eddie Murphy is just a shell of his former self on the Audio Edition a few weeks ago… it looks like Eddie was listening… just not listening well.

Word on the street is that Eddie Murphy is coming back to the Beverly Hills Cop series with #4. That’s right folks… Beverly Hills Cop 4. Could there be a worse idea?

The good folks over at Cinematical give us this little chart to ponder when thinking about Beverly Hills Cop 4:

Beverly Hills Cop (1984) — $234 million in domestic box office — and people liked it.
Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987) — $154 million — and people tolerated it.
Beverly Hills Cop 3 (1994) — $43 million — and people pretty much hated it.

It doesn’t take a degree from MIT to see the pattern here. But oh well… when did common sense ever stop some people?

If this turns out to be true… I will officially have lost 100% all hope in Eddie Murphy. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

  1. 4 words…’The Next Karate Kid’…needless to say, enough said…that movie revived a fledging ‘Karate Kid’ franchise, and not only that became the best of the series. Hillary’s Swanks performance trumped Macchio’s in all 3 previous movies and acted as the stepping stone to ‘Million Dollar Baby’. In essence this will lead to Dreamgirlz 2 which will grant Murphy an Oscar nod for best actor and also best movie, of all time, ever made.

  2. i like the BHC series and i fink that if they do bring out a fourth it will do quite well seeing as a lot of people liked the series and now there are a diversity of generations that like the BHC series

  4. HI, EDDIE MURPHY

MY GRANDMOTHER WAS IN LOVE WITH YOUR FILMS BACK IN THE 80S. I ALSO LIKE ALL 3 OF DA BEVERLY HILLS COP SEQUELS. DO YOU FEEL EXCITED ABOUT GOING 4TH TO MAKING ANOTHER 1.

  5. I’m a very big fun of Eddie Murphy and was also fortunate to play as one of the featured extras in BHC 3, at Great America in Santa Clara CA. I hope every thing goes as plan with the fourth installment of BHC. I’ll definitely like to see Axel Foley back in action, giving the bad guys some serious (AXE…lol) kickin!

    Possible Stories?

BHC 4 – Made in China (China try’s to take over the U.S. remotely with secret electronic gadgets they’ve be planting in all computers and electronic imports to the U.S.A, for the past 10 yrs. Axel must find the main brain and destroy it before the take over date)
    A.K.I

BHC 4 – Fast Talker (Axel goes undercover as a fast talking, cross dresser, chop shop owner, who deals in high end luxury cars. He is basically a front man for the mob. After taking down the mob, his partner was killed along with his partner’s wife and kids. Axel gets even)
    A.K.I

BHC 4 – 11 and Counting ( Axel is hot on the trail of a serial killer, whom happens to be someone very close to him all along. His 14yrs. old cousin)
    A.K.I

BHC 4 – Hang Em (Axel is being frame for the shooting death of the Governor of the state. There’s a $5,000.000 bounty leading to Axel’s arrested. He must do everything possible to prove his innocence and expose the true killers)
    A.K.I

BHC 4 – Good Bye America ( A group terrorist cells in the United States have managed to gain network access to the pentagon, the white house, capital hill, wall street and few military installations and they’re also holding hostages at a nuclear plant, which Axel’s pregnant girlfriend works at)
    A.K.I

    Possible Directors?

    Tony Scott
    John Singleton
    Michael Mann
    Peter Berg
    Ridley Scott
    Michael Bay

    A.K.I

  6. If paramont wants to bring Beverly Hills Cop 4 to the screen they first need to bring back the original cast from 1-2 ( 1) Ronny Cox (Bogomill we last herd from him in BHC2 at the in of the Movie he was promoted to Chief he was not even mention in BHC 3 (2) Also bring back John Ashton( Taggart it was a disappointment that he was not in BHC3. Rosewoood said he retired. Bring taggart back out of retirement people would love to see him again with foley and old partner Rosewood. You also have to have Judge Rienhold (Billy) in the movie it just makes since that olds school BHC now you cam make the movie. Now new school also bring back the guy who played flint hector i forget his last name.I really hope this happen.

  7. It’s impossible to compare BHC to Spiderman, X-Men and other successful sequel franchises, because those are based on a long series of stories that have proved successful in literary form. BHC was a one-off story, originally written as an action movie for Mickey Rourke, then Sly Stallone. It’s success as a comedy was down to shrewd casting by Marty Brest, and the inspired improv of Eddie Murphy.

Fast forward some 20 years and a lot has changed. Eddie’s comedy has run out of steam, and the concept behind BHC – wisecracking, streetwise kid mixing it with the rich and stiff – is surely dead.

HAVING SAID THAT, if they make a fresh movie and don’t just try a rehash of the first 2 (I can’t count BHC3..it was unforgivably shit), there is undoubted potential.

By now, Eddie must surely be a police chief, and Taggart must surely be in Bogomil’s position?

    Set it in London?

  8. Hey there, you all seem a little too anal over this…yes eddies career has gone down the pan..yes bhc was one of the funniest films of its time and has stood the test of time. bhc2 was funny and took alot of money when released. bhc3 well that was a funny film to some extent but would have been better if it was a new character played by eddie as someone has stated it sorely missed bogomil and taggart bhc4….well we will just have to wait and see, and even those of you who think the film is a dumb idea will go and see it just because we all have a love of movies so stop bickering like a bunch of schoolgirls and GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!!!

  9. They’ve been playing re-runs of the original BHC on HBO. Watched it for like the 20th time last week and I gotta say even now, that movie is good enough to make me want to watch BHC 4. I just hope the storyline doesn’t suck ass.

  10. YO FUCK ALL OF YOU. BEVERLY HILLS COP IS THE GREATEST SERIES OF MOVIES EVERYO FUCK ALL OF YOU. BEVERLY HILLS COP IS THE GREATEST SERIES OF MOVIES EVER< AND IF UDONT THINK SO U SHOULD BE SHOT

  11. Hey Tim,

Ummm… look, no offense, but this is a BLOG. Hence “The Movie BLOG”. If you want “just the facts” with no opinion, then go to CNN. This is a BLOG, which means it’s all about my opinion. Hence the subtitle of the page “Official Home of Correct Movie Opinions”.

    This isn’t a news site.

  12. Movies, Books and Games should never have a opionin from the writter. The buyer should be able to make his own choise. News of new movies or actors should explain what is in store for the public to engulf. The more info on remakes, actors and events is great subject matter when your at work. I can’t agree more with Chris that B Hills 1,2 were great flims in there own right. Part 3 was turn down by Eddie at 1st,in his own words this movie will not stand the test of time. The only reason he did the flim because you would have to been a fool not to take the money they offered him. So please with sugar on it, just the facts no silly remarks why flims should not be made.

  13. I was pissed when I read that stupid article up top, I understand your entitled to your opinion, but this guy doesn’t know what the heck he’s talking about. Beverly Hills Cop 1&2 are & will always be my favorite movies. I like part 2 the best because there all friends, not just getting to know each other. Taggart is actually a bit more funny, Rosewood’s got more balls than before. Finally Axel Foley seems more experienced In what he’s doing, he can bribe his way into anything at anytime. He is so funny in both movies! 22&19 years later to this day both movies make me laugh so hard!!!! Part 3 I thought was ok, I didn’t like that Todd was killed, Taggart retired, there was no Bogomil. If they want part 4 to be great, bring back John Ashton, Ronnie Cox, & Judge Rienhold for an awesome sequel! I really, really hope this happends!! Thanx~~

  14. Well written Da Man. BHC 2 was great and 3 would have been a decent movie if on it’s own, but as all sequels are, it was compared to the first 2 and didn’t live up. It just didn’t have the feel of the first 2 mainly because it wasn’t produced by Bruckheimer/Simpson. If Bruckheimer is involved in 4 as he is rumored to be, this movie will have a serious chance of recapturing the feel of the first 2.

  15. The guy who wrote that Beverly Hills Cop 2 was tolerable is an jack ass who knows nothing about movies. A 154 million is a lot of money a few decades ago. Remember that the first Beverly Hills Cop was the number one comedy of all time which is hard to come close to even with a successful sequel. Part two lead Eddie Murphy to the height of his popularity. Also, the sequel was Directed by Tony Scott (who had previously did Top Gun) and it has Tony Scott written all over it. Tony Scott is a legendary Director and so is Beverly Hills Cop 2. Beverly Hills Cop 2 is not as good as the first one. However, it still has enough power to stand on it’s own as one of the greatest films of all time.

  16. I enjoyed bhc 1-2 and i agree the third wasn’t as good as 1&2 but i think they should make this forth one simply because the bhc series{apart from shrek coz it’s animated}will be far better than n e of eddie’s other films.

  17. Erm … Eddie Murphy really has gone off the deep end, and his career — with some modest success at reinvention — really ended years ago. His reliance on fart jokes means BHC4 would be pedantic.

  18. I think the current trend of remakes makes it quite clear that there’s money in a name when it comes to these films. And Eddie is big again.

So there’s a huge bunch of people who know the BHC name, didn’t see or have forgotten the 3rd film, and love Eddie Murphy.

I’d say there’s a great deal of potential financial sense in this. I’m not saying it will be good, but I think they’re far from idiots for giving it a try, from a business perspective.

Sequels used to traditionally make less than the originals, but that tide has turned, and sequels tend to build upon previous success. I’m not saying that box office figures from Spiderman and X-Men franchises can be applied directly here, but enough’s changed among moviegoers for there to be a good deal of mileage in this.

My betting is that they’ll pair him with a sidekick who appeals to the kids – probably someone from a musical background. Maybe they’re making this film just to piss you off, John?

  19. by that rate, it should rake in about , what? 30 million?
and I can’t even do advanced algebra.

You know, cop 3 wasnt’ BAD…it just wasnt nearly as killer as one or 2.

just please say it’s not going to happen at another theme park.

  20. Well hopefully Beverly Hills 4(if made) will be good and get Eddie back on the right track. But I got to say I love him voicing Donkey and I enjoyed ‘I Spy’.

  21. Better this than Nash Pluto or some crap! I’ll be the first to say it – I would go see BH4 if it were ever to be made…in fact, make it, I wanna see it! I enjoyed the other 3 (ok, not the third one as much as the first one :S)
