There are some very different opinions out there regarding Hostel, the fun happy go lucky film about vacationing in eastern Europe (please note sarcasm). Some either think it’s the stupidest piece of trash that came out last year… and some others… like me… think it was a fun gross out flick. But no matter what you think of the original, you can’t deny it made big profit, so the sequel was inevitable. And a smart move on the part of the studio too.
This new news from our friends over at JoBlo is NOT so smart of a move:
Eli Roth’s follow-up to his American-college- guys-lured-by-dynamite-foreign- knockers-into-being-tortured- for-sport horror thriller HOSTEL, now officially known as ELI ROTH’S HOSTEL PART II, has had its release date pushed back to June 8th. Early summer seems like a relatively odd date to release a niche horror film, especially considering how well the first film did on its January release, but Roth likely needed a little more time to tweak this bad boy to gory perfection.
This is STUPID STUPID STUPID. A June 8th release date for this little film??? JoBlo is right, the film had success because of it’s nitch release date… but on June 8th it’ll be facing some SERIOUS heavyweight competition for the entertainment dollar. Pirates 3 will have just opened 2 weeks before and will no doubt still be going really strong. Oceans 13 opens the same day, Fantastic Four (love it or hate it, you know it’s going to make big money) is opening the following week… YIKES. What the hell are they thinking?
